West London Business Awards
Shepherds Bush Housing Group was named Community Investment Business of the Year in the 2017 West London Business Awards with judges saying ‘the list goes on and on’ of the community value added.
The awards promote talent and entrepreneurship and saw strong competition across 23 categories. For SBHG’s award, judges wanted to see ‘win-win benefits for your company and wider society alike.’
Judges were impressed by SBHG’s group-wide approach to making a difference and the community focused services delivered by Best Chance, which helps people into employment, and Staying First, which supports the most vulnerable people in the community.
SBHG chair Russell Caller said: “We have been part of the west London community for almost 50 years so are very honoured to have won this award.
“Community investment in our DNA. Our mission is Social Heart, Business Head, Local Impact. We build and strengthen communities, we create a lasting economic return on investment and we respond to what’s needed locally and put our residents at the heart of what we do.”
The award was presented by BBC presenter Konnie Huq, Cllr Julian Bell, the leader of Ealing Council and Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council.
The judges said they were impressed ‘that each pound invested in Best Chance returns four times that of economic benefit. Then there's the space they give to art groups, food banks, an affordable nursery...The list goes on and on.”
The West London Business Annual Awards showcase business excellence in west London around three themes: ‘Sector leadership’, ‘Sustainable & responsible business’ and ‘Economic growth’.
