SBHG goes the extra mile for children
Shepherds Bush Housing Group manager Graham Wells is on a marathon mission to raise £2000 for disabled children after completing the London marathon.
After finishing last Sunday’s gruelling 26 mile run in five hours, he has already raised £1300. He plans to top up the total with fund-raising ideas such as a cake bake at SBHG’s head office in Flanders Road, Chiswick.
All the money raised will go to Kids Get Going which helps promote sports for disabled children by providing them with specially built sports’ wheelchairs so they can do marathons and other sports.
Graham said: “Kids Get Going helps children who couldn’t enjoy sport without specially adapted wheelchairs which are very expensive. I enjoy the challenge of the marathon and find it amazing that so many people are running alongside to support so many different causes. All my colleagues at work have been supporting me which really helped motivate me when I was running.”
Graham ran the New York marathon in November 2009 for Kids Get Going. He raised enough money to give a child a specially adapted sports’ wheelchair.
Graham manages SBHG’s supported housing service which offers accommodation and support to vulnerable residents across west London. This includes people with a physical disability or long-term health issue, people experiencing domestic violence, elderly people in sheltered accommodation and young people leaving care.
Kids Get Going is one of ten charities officially supported by SBHG. This means staff can support the charities through their work, such as offering their skills as volunteers for two days a year.
