Residents take pride in their estate

Picture of Mayor at Elizabeth Barnes CourtMore than £500 was raised for a new social club for elderly residents at Elizabeth Barnes Court in Fulham at its summer fete.

The sheltered complex in Marinefield Road run by Shepherds Bush Housing Group (SBHG) is home to 40 residents who have set up the club to organise outing and activities.

Committee member Diana Worthington, who has lived at Elizabeth Barnes Court for four years and been an SBHG tenant for more than 30, is one of five committee members.

She said: “We’ll probably spend some of the money on our summer trip to Eastbourne. We’re planning all sorts of outings to places like Thorpe Park as well as lunches out.

“Our fete also meant we could welcome people into Elizabeth Barnes Court – we were really well supported by the local community and it was a lovely afternoon.”

The Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham Cllr Alex Karmel and his mayoress Cllr Jane Law were among the guests. Cllr Karmel said: “Elizabeth Barnes Court is a small perfect jewel hidden away in Fulham. It’s like a micro-community.”

Residents worked with their warden Sorki Cassidy to arrange the fete with stalls ranging from bric-a-brac to reflexology. Residents have already decided to donate some of the money to the local Safer Communities police team.

The fete was on Saturday 25 July. SBHG would like to thank the following local businesses for their support;
Energie Fitness Club, Fulham SW6
Penhallow (clothes shop)
Copper (hairdressing)
Dreams (beds) Fulham SW6
Abundance (gifts)
Artiquea
Cathy Bradley (reflexologoist).
