Local author supports summer fete

A summer fete raises nearly £1000 for 40 residents living in Elizabeth Barnes Court (EBC), a sheltered housing scheme managed by Shepherds Bush Housing Group.

The summer fete, held every year, raises money for EBC’s ‘Get up and go club’. The Get up and go club organises day trips and courses for residents.

The Get up and go club will also donate some of the money to Trinity Hospice, which provides end of life support and care to patients and their families in south west London.

Money was raised through bric-a-brac stalls and a raffle, hosted by June Zetter. The items were all donated by local business in Fulham and staff at SBHG. SBHG staff and Soka Gakkai International Buddhists also volunteered their time at the weekend to help run stalls at the fete. Claudio Casuto, volunteer hosted an auction at the fete.

Diana Worthington, resident and chairperson of the Get up and go club, said: “We were really happy at how many people came along and supported us. Everyone had a really good time; there was good music, food and stalls. We are going to decide how to spend the money now and what day trips we can go on over the next year.”

Sorki Cassidy, sheltered scheme officer at EBC, said: “The fete was a huge success, the money raised has meant residents can continue on their ‘Silver Surfers’ course which teaches them how to use the internet and set up email accounts. Staff and local organisations have really helped to make this day really memorable for our residents.”
