Volunteering

Volunteers' BBQ 2009Volunteering offers many benefits. Some volunteer to give back the community. Some volunteer to acquire new skills. Others volunteer because they want to make new friends.

Shepherds Bush Housing Group (SBHG) has 46 volunteers. Their work is vital to the service we offer and makes a real difference.

Opportunities for volunteering exist throughout SBHG. Volunteering is co-ordinated by Jennette Skinner at Staying Put Services. She said: "We have 46 volunteers and rely on them to support our work. They give freely of their time and enthusiasm to help support us and our residents. We were recently awarded 'Investing in Volunteering' accreditation which is testimony to our commitment and the volunteers' contribution."

Volunteers contribute services ranging from spending  time with the lonely, elderly or vulnerable tenants through to carrying out administrative work. Some have gone on to become full-time members of staff.

The volunteering project supports and enhances services by enabling the organisation to use the skills and experiences offered by volunteers. SPS was awarded the Investing In Volunteers accreditation in February 2009.
