Green living in London just got easier with Furnish@West12 in Shepherds Bush, the capital’s newest furniture recycling store.

Furnish@West12, in the West 12 Shopping Centre owned by Land Securities, will make it easy for people living in west London to donate or buy good quality used furniture.

It’s run by Furnish, part of Staying Put Services, the charitable arm of Shepherds Bush Housing Group, which each year collects on average 170 tonnes of unwanted furniture.

Furnish spruces up the ‘pre-loved’ donations at its two warehouses in White City before displaying it at Furnish@West12.

Furnish@West12 is sharing the shop with and supported by Healthy Planet, a charity set up by Shaylesh Patel, which asks landlords if it can temporarily take over empty shops until a permanent tenant is found.

Furnish manager Mark Hardy said: “People can now drop by to have a look rather than going to our warehouses. They can also pop in to discuss volunteering and work experience and arrange for collections of furniture from homes in west London.

“We’re particularly excited about the partnership between Furnish, the West 12 Shopping Centre and Healthy Planet which has made this happen.”

Land Securities’ West 12 Centre Manager Gavin Waller said: “We’re pleased to work with Furnish and help create this new retail opportunity at West 12 Shopping Centre.

“Furniture can have a long life-cycle so this is a great way of helping things last. Being a responsible business is part of our DNA, whether it is working with our local communities and businesses or operating in an environmentally sustainable way. So this venture fits well within our approach.”

Shaylesh Patel said: “It’s always a pleasure to work with any initiative that fits in with our profile of promoting a greener, healthier lifestyle. Healthy Planet is delighted to share our Books for Free shop with Furnish@West12, and we look forward to helping them recycle used furniture so that the local community can enjoy some fantastic items at excellent prices.”
