Picture of Lorna Revell, Graham Raineand Karen SmithMore than 100 guests, including the Rt Hon Tony Benn, celebrated the 25th anniversary of Staying Put Services (SPS).

Formed in 1984, SPS is the charitable arm of Shepherds Bush Housing Group. It has helped thousands of elderly and vulnerable people stay in their homes through services such as repairs and adaptations.

The Rt Hon Tony Benn became patron in 2005 after SPS carried out work at his house to help his wife remain at home when she first developed cancer nine years ago.

Other guests included Councillor Fiona Buxton (Kensington and Chelsea’s cabinet member for housing services), and Stephen Bubb (chief executive of the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations). They led a discussion on the future role of charities and voluntary organisations.

The 25th anniversary celebrated all the different services that SPS offers residents in west London. These include legal advice on housing, furniture re-use and a Well-Being Service to help people live healthily

Karen Smith was thanked for creating the research called ‘I’m not complaining’ which led to the creation of the charity in 1984 to help the older residents in private rented accommodation.  Lorna Revell, head of operations at SPS, was thanked for 20 years contribution to SPS.

The evening ended with a charity auction of furniture donated to Furnish, the furniture re-use service.

The event was at Kensington Town Hall on Friday 03 July. Please click here to see photos.
