Celebrating the work of our volunteers

Pictures of SPS volunteersShepherds Bush Housing Group’s (SBHG) volunteers celebrated national Volunteers’ Week with a summer barbeque.

Volunteers were invited to the barbeque as a thank you for their hard work and contribution to SBHG. Volunteers feasted on food prepared by staff and volunteers.

Volunteers work in many different roles. They offer companionship to elderly or vulnerable residents, support SBHG through administration or deliver furniture with Furnish, a furniture re-use charity. There are more than 40 volunteers across SBHG who come from across west London to offer their time and help residents.

During the event Anne-Marie Zaritsky, assessor for Investing In Volunteers unveiled an Investing In Volunteers plaque. She said: ”This is a shining example of a successful and well managed volunteering programme; providing not only valuable services to the community but also an environment in which volunteers themselves can learn new skills in a friendly and supportive way.”

Graham Raine, Director of Staying Put Services, the charitable arm of SBHG said: “We rely on the dedication and support from our volunteers. Our annual barbeque is our chance to say thank you.  As part of our volunteering, we give training and support to help volunteers learn new skills and gain experience which will help them in the future.”
