SBHG's volunteer celebration
Shepherds Bush Housing Group (SBHG) celebrated three years of volunteering with an event which gave awards to the longest-serving volunteers.
Twenty six volunteers attended the Irish themed-event held on St Patrick’s Day (17 March).
Four awards were given to volunteers who have been with SBHG for more than two years; Reginald Brown, Jeffery Mills, Shelia Collins and Leroy Francis.
Volunteers contribute services ranging from spending time with lonely, elderly or vulnerable SBHG residents through to carrying out administrative work.
Jennette Skinner, SBHG’s Volunteer Co-ordinator, said: “We have 46 volunteers and rely on them to support our work. They give freely of their time and enthusiasm to help support us and our residents. This year, Staying Put Services, our charitable arm, was awarded ‘Investing In Volunteers’ accreditation which is testimony to our commitment and the contribution volunteers make.”
Hannah Coleman volunteered at SBHG before going on to a full-time job at SBHG. She said: “I volunteered to gain new skills as I’d never been in an office environment. I learned many new skills and eventually started a trainee position. Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills, build confidence and meet new people. “
