Fire safety
This year 400 people are likely to die in house fires in the UK and you are twice as likely to die if you don’t have a smoke detector, according to the London Fire Brigade.
Many people die because they cannot escape buildings. For the safety of you, your neighbours, and the Fire Brigade, you must not leave anything in communal areas such as hallways or landings. It is a breach of your tenancy to do so.
You must ensure that you have a smoke detector and check the batteries regularly.
The London Fire Brigade will visit your home, for free, to offer advice in person on keeping your home safe. SBHA strongly recommends that you request a Home Fire Safety Visit.

The London Fire Brigade website offers advice on reducing the chances of a fire in your home and measures you can take to protect yourself, your family and your home.
