Subletting
Subletting is a serious issue affecting councils and housing associations. If you are illegally subletting your property you are committing housing fraud and we will take action against you.
What is subletting
Subletting occurs when a tenant(s):
• sublets the whole of their home to somebody else;
• is not using the property as their sole and principal residence;
• subletting part of your home without the consent of the landlord; or
• remain in a property after the actual tenant has left or died.
You should contact your neighbourhood action team officer to discuss how and if you can legally sublet property.
If you believe that a tenant is subletting their property you should report it to us.
