Shepherds Bush Housing Group

We want to make sure that as many of our properties are occupied as possible. This means we bring in rent to spend on services for our residents and give homes to people who are in need.

Rather than leave our properties empty while they are awaiting major repairs or even demolition for rebuilding, we work with Shepherds Bush Short Life Housing Co-operative.

Our partnership with the co-op means some of its members can live temporarily in our properties that we would not otherwise be able to rent out. All decorations and minor work needs to be carried out by the co-op member while they are living in the property.

For instance members of the co-op lived at Twynholm Mansions in Fulham (pictured) while major work was carried out.

For more information about the Shepherds Bush Short Life Housing Co-operative please contact SBHA and we will forward your enquiry to the co-op.

There are many housing co-ops in London. They lease properties from a council or a housing association for a set period of time. Some housing co-ops have permanent properties, others are 'short life.' The lease may vary from a number of months to a number of years.

For more information on how to become a member of a housing co-op, contact the co-ops directly. Co-ops vary widely in terms of size, standard of housing, entry procedures and level of tenant involvement and management.

It can often be difficult to get into permanent co-ops, but some do have open waiting lists. Most select members on the basis of housing need, and many take people nominated by the local authority.
