Getting involved
We're proud to be one of the leading housing associations in the arena of resident involvement. Our residents are involved in everything we do, from sitting on our board through to keeping an eye on our estates.
Our vision is to: “Offer tenants opportunities to become involved in all activities of the association at any level. Tenants must feel comfortable with and have real influence on the strategies and policies of the association.”
We offer real power to our tenants as shareholders. More than three quarters of our shareholders are tenants.
We pride ourselves on high levels of resident involvement in our governance. We have four tenant board members and one tenant co-optee. A co-optee does not have voting rights on the appointment of the Board.
Resident representatives sit on all sub committees and can hold all positions up to and including the chair of the committee of management.
SBHG provides financial support to an Independent Tenants' Committee. There is regular contact between tenants and staff with staff regularly attending tenants meetings and Independent Tenants’ Committee meetings.
There are many ways tenants can get involved. We have associations and panels as well as informal groups giving tenants the opportunity to participate in decision-making.
We've developed new opportunities for leaseholders to participate in decision-making by forming a leaseholder panel. We also have some leaseholder resident associations as well as our first resident association with both tenants and leaseholders.
Residents who want to become more involved in SBHA and their local community can become tenant monitors.
We have intouch@sbha to provide a support service to the Independent Tenants' Committee and tenants.
If you're a service user at Westside, you'll be welcome at a Wise forum.
