Give unwanted Christmas presents a good home and pick up a bargain!
West London residents have a great opportunity to swap unwanted Christmas presents, pick up a bargain, and help the environment at the same time – at “Stuff for Free” events in which Furnish is a partner.
For January, The Vision warehouse on Kendal Avenue in Acton will be the site of a unique event where people can drop off any unwanted “stuff” and take home other items they really want. This includes electrical items, thanks to DHL Envirosolutions who will take away any broken electrical equipment to be recycled.
From Thursday 12 to Sunday 22 January (8am until 12pm and 9am to 3pm at weekends) residents can take along any unwanted items that are still in good enough condition for others to want and use including books, furniture, gadgets and other household items.
Then from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 January, after a team of volunteers have sorted through the donations, anyone can come along and take items they want. And it’s all free!
What’s more you will be helping the environment. By re-using things instead of throwing them away, we save on landfill space, reduce fly tipping and help to save valuable resources. These events will also offer people who are feeling the pinch after Christmas, the chance to pick up household items they may need.
Healthy Planet, a green charity, will be hosting the a unique series of ‘give and take’ events in the New Year, in partnership Furnish, a west London re-use charity and West London Waste Authority.
Shaylesh Patel, founder of Healthy Planet said of the event, ‘we throw away far too many items that could be re-used or recycled, which means that our landfill sites are nearly at capacity and incinerators are unnecessarily burning materials that are still useful and have value to someone. By working with key partners to host events such as these we can all improve both the global environment - by reducing landfill - and the local environment, by using empty units such as the Vision event-spaces for the community”.
