SBHG moves south of the river

Award winning developer Shepherds Bush Housing Group has moved south of the river for the first time, offering homes to people who live or work in Wandsworth who would not otherwise be able to buy them.

The 14 apartments in Charterhouse on Eltringham Street are shared ownership, meaning people buy a share from SBHG and then pay rent on the remainder of the property. They can increase their share as they can afford to do so over time.

According to a survey taken at February’s London Affordable New Homes Show, 92% of would-be buyers would like to opt for shared ownership as opposed to entering the mainstream housing market.

Councillor Martin D Johnson, the London Borough of Wandsworth’s Executive Member for Housing, opened the development of one and two bedroomed properties on Friday 26 February. They open to the public on Saturday 13 March.

Paula Fance, director of development and sales at SBHG, said: “These are stunning affordable properties. We hope that people will come along to take a look, and see what they can afford in this sought after location. Wandsworth is a popular part of London. Helping people to afford a home here, through shared ownership, is at the very core of what we do.”

Cllr Johnson said: “We know that these great apartments built by SBHG will be very popular. People buying these homes expect the best; the apartments offer quality and space. We’re looking forward to working with SBHG again in the future to meet our affordable housing demand.”

The development was supported by public subsidy through the Homes and Communities Agency. Before SBHG developed the land, it was partly occupied commercial units. The development is part of a larger regeneration of the Battersea Reach area along the river.

The 14 shared ownership properties are part of the Charterhouse development of 54 homes by Shanly Homes. The properties are available for residents or key workers in Wandsworth with a household income lower than £60,000.
