Shepherds Bush Housing Group’s Morris House was awarded top place in Ealing Civic Society’s annual awards that celebrate architecture, design and landscaping. It was selected from a shortlist of nine.

The award was presented to Paul Doe, SBHG’s chief executive, by BBC current affairs journalist Stephen Sackur.

Morris House in Cowley Road, Acton, is a conversion of a former Morris Minor car parts' warehouse. As part of the design integrity by Davy Smith Architects, the external shell is retained and the new accommodation is slotted inside creating a building within a building.

Morris House provides 41 apartments, offering affordable home ownership to people on lower incomes. All but one are now occupied.

Paul Doe said: “We are honoured to have this award which we feel recognises the integrity of the design and our determination to ensure a landmark building continues to be part of the local community.”

Morris House was also chosen to be part of London’s Open House weekend in September. The weekend showcases inspiring buildings and excellent architecture.

Morris House is part of SBHG’s WestPoint development which includes Issigonis House, 129 stunning apartments, some of which are still available to buy. Issigonis House is named after the creator of the iconic Mini.
