London's Open House weekend

Morris HouseMore than 100 people visited Morris House during the weekend of 18-19 September as part of London’s Open House weekend.

SBHG's Morris House development was open to the public as an example of an inspiring building and excellent architecture. Chosen to be part of London's Open House weekend, it stands alongside buildings such as the Royal Naval College in Greenwich.

Open House allows people to visit buildings for free which are not normally open to the public.

Stephen Davy, of Davy Smith Architects, said: “Though the building is not listed, we strongly believed it had architectural merit and character, and should not be demolished. Our design allowed for the existing external shell to be retained and for new accommodation to be slotted inside it, creating a building within a building.”

Olfet Khedair and Jayoti Bassi, SBHG’s sales negotiators, were on hand with the architects to show people round the development.

The Morris House development is a conversion of a former Morris Minor car parts' warehouse. It provides 41 new apartments. The external shell is retained and the new accommodation is slotted inside creating a building within a building.
