SBHG celebrates Neighbours' Day
Townmead Estate was overrun on 27 May as the residents came
together to enjoy Neighbours' Day.
The day encouraged residents to get to know each other in a
neighbourly fashion - over a cup of tea. They enjoyed a range of
activities ranging from over-sized lawn games such as Jenga and
Connect-four to football coaching sessions provided courtesy of
Fulham Football Club. Music provided by Juma Steel Band provided
uplifting afternoon entertainment while residents sampled sweet
treats of cake and candy floss.
Various stalls dotted around the estate provided information
from Staying Put Services, Voluntary and Well-Being Projects,
Westside Support Services, Property Management, and stalls from the
event's sponsors, Shepherds Bush Housing Association contractors,
CMS and Pinnacle. The Fire Brigade and Local Community Police were
also present.
The 'Bug Man' and face painting stalls proved the most popular;
visitors were eager to ogle and play with snakes, tarantulas,
geckos and various insects, while children queued for hours to have
their faces painted.
Organised by Jane Sheehan, 100 people are estimated to have
attended the event, appreciating the opportunity to talk to their
neighbours, and meet the Group's employees. Neighbours' Day is a
national event celebrated across Europe aiming to bring communities
together by breaking down barriers and building bridges between
local groups.
