Affordable housing comes a step closer at Swainson Road
Councillor Jason Stacey, Leader of Ealing Council, joined
Shepherds Bush Housing Group and our partner contractor Countryside
Properties, to pour the final slab of concrete to 'top off' our
Swainson Road development recently.
The ceremony, also attended by invited local stakeholders, marked
the completion of the concrete frame strcture of the buildings at
the striking new mixed use development at Swainson Road, Acton Vale
in the London Borough of Ealing.
David Everett, Managing Director at Countryside Properties says:
"Countryside Properties is committed to providing affordable
housing through working in partnership, and the ceremony was an
excellent opportunity to celebrate the successful collaboration of
all the parties involved in this development".
The scheme will provide 34 shared ownership and seven outright sale
new flats and maisonettes, plus 129 shared ownership live/work
dwellings for Shepherd's Bush Housing Group. The development will
also incorporate 18 commercial units and a supermarket, bringing
much needed affordable housing and commercial activity to the
area.
Prospective occupiers of the affordable housing will be nominated
through four Local Authorities; Ealing, Brent, Kensington &
Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham.
The live/work properties have been thoughtfully designed to provide
large, flexible spaces that will enable people to operate a variety
of small businesses from them.
The redevelopment of this brownfield site has included partial
demolition of the existing buildings, although the listed façade of
the old Morris Minor factory has been carefully retained. The new
homes will also be arranged around a communal courtyard, providing
important outside green space.
Paul Doe, Chief Executive of Shepherds Bush Housing Group says:" We
are delighted to have Countryside Properties as a development
partner for this project and the completion of the roof structure
signifies that we are a step closer to providing this much needed
affordable housing in the area."
Nearly £10million of Housing Corporation grant was provided to
support the project.
